Rev. Fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P., currently the parish priest of Santisimo Rosario Parish - UST, succeeded Rev. Fr. Filemon I. dela Cruz Jr., O.P. as religious promoter and spiritual director of the Young Thomasian Professionals. His selection was announced by YTP formator and Dominican Laity Provincial Council president Dr. Belen L. Tangco, O.P. last October 7, feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The recollection was held at the residence of our brother-president, Aldrin Michael D. Varsovia, O.P. The day was filled with prayers and team-building activities. Fr. Coronel also delivered a lecture on the life of St. Dominic and the Dominican spirituality. As a fitting conclusion, the Eucharist was celebrated and was capped off by a Salve procession towards the image of Our Lady of the Rosary in the family altar of the Varsovias.
The Gospel reading for the thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle A) featured Jesus denouncing the hypocrisy of pharisees. In his homily, Fr. Coronel emphasized the importance of living what we preach. Saint Dominic himself saw its importance as a remedy to the problems of the Church during his time. Many were converted or returned to the Catholic faith not only because of his persuasive arguments, but more so because people saw how he bore genuine witness to what he preached. Fr. Coronel also reiterated the fact that it is Jesus, not ourselves, who should be extolled whenever we reach out to others.
Dr. Tangco was not present due to official business overseas. Here are some photos of the activity:
