"Young people, as has often been said, are the future of society and the Church. Good use of the Internet can help prepare them for their responsibilities in both. But this will not happen automatically. The Internet is not merely a medium of entertainment and consumer gratification. It is a tool for accomplishing useful work, and the young must learn to see it and use it as such. In cyberspace, at least as much as anywhere else, they may be called on to go against the tide, practice counter-culturalism, even suffer persecution for the sake of what is true and good."
— The Pontifical Council for Social Communications
The Church and the Internet, 22 February 2002
Our God, sovereign in the universe, is the Lord of history. It is His goodness that allows mankind to arrive at technological advances, and it is our solemn duty to use these gifts to help build His kingdom on earth. The Popes themselves have called on members of the Church to use the internet in the New Evangelization. Even eight hundred years after its foundation, the call for the Dominican Family whose very charism is preaching, is as strong as ever.
As a Lay Dominican chapter-in-formation composed of young professionals, we seek to utilize social media and the internet to:
In this little way, we hope to contribute to the Mission we all inherited from our holy father, St. Dominic.
How did it start
Before a website was even conceived, the YTP group already had a Facebook page by which it helps promote the faith and the lay Dominican vocation.
On 10 December 2016, at the recommendation of Dr. Belén Tangco OP, Aldrin Michael Varsovia OP (president of the Young Thomasian Professionals) presented YTP's draft website to Rev. Fr. Napoleon Sipalay Jr., OP, Prior Provincial of the Philippines, and to the Provincial Council of the Laity. It was graciously approved by them in the same meeting. The Prior Provincial also proposed that since the YTP is composed of young professionals who have access to the internet, the group should be the one to make an umbrella website for all lay Dominican fraternities in the Philippine Province. This effectively gave the YTP an additional apostolate.
The umbrella website of the Dominican Laity (DPP) is scheduled to be launched on 23 April 2017, Divine Mercy Sunday, during the National Convention of Lay Dominican Fraternities at the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
We give thanks
We sincerely thank the Prior Provincial and the Provincial Council of the Laity, especially Rev. Fr. Honorato C. Castigador OP (Provincial Promoter) and Dr. Belén L. Tangco OP (Provincial Council President) for their trust and support.
This humble work is dedicated to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity, and to the honor of Blessed Mary ever Virgin, of our holy father St. Dominic, and of all the Dominican Saints and Blesseds. May Christ the King reign over the cyberspace!
