"Young people, as has often been said, are the future of society and the Church. Good use of the Internet can help prepare them for their responsibilities in both. But this will not happen automatically. The Internet is not merely a medium of entertainment and consumer gratification. It is a tool for accomplishing useful work, and the young must learn to see it and use it as such. In cyberspace, at least as much as anywhere else, they may be called on to go against the tide, practice counter-culturalism, even suffer persecution for the sake of what is true and good."
— The Pontifical Council for Social Communications
The Church and the Internet, 22 February 2002
God's hand is the Lord of history. It is God who allows mankind to arrive at technological advances, and it is our duty to use these gifts to help build His kingdom on earth. The Popes themselves have called on members of the Church to use the internet in the New Evangelization. The call for the Dominican Family, whose very charism is preaching, is as strong as ever.
Being a Lay Dominican Fraternity composed of young professionals, we seek to utilize social media and the internet to:
In this little way, we hope to contribute to the Mission the Dominican Family inherited from our holy father, St. Dominic.
How did it start
Before a website was even conceived, the YTP group already had a Facebook page by which it helps promote the faith and the lay Dominican vocation.
On December 10, 2016, at the recommendation of Dr. Belén Tangco OP, YTP president Aldrin Michael Varsovia OP presented the first draft website to Rev. Fr. Napoleon Sipalay Jr., OP, Prior Provincial of the Philippines, and to the Provincial Council of the Laity. It was graciously approved by them (with special instructions) in the same meeting. The Prior Provincial also proposed that since the YTP is composed of young professionals who have constant access to the internet, the group should be the one to make an umbrella website for all lay Dominican fraternities in the Philippine Province.
This effectively gave the YTP an additional apostolate fitting to the group. After all, the Directory and By-Laws encourages fraternities to have a "definite efficacious apostolate prompted by the special talents of its members" (Part 1, 5.4, par. a).
We give thanks
We sincerely thank the Prior Provincial and the Provincial Council of the Laity, especially Rev. Fr. Honorato C. Castigador OP, Provincial Promoter of the Laity, and Dr. Belén L. Tangco OP, President of the Council and formator of the Young Thomasian Professionals, for their trust and support.
The umbrella website of the Dominican Laity (DPP) is underway and will be presented to the Prior Provincial and the Provincial Council of the Dominican Laity for their approval, once finished.
We dedicate this humble work to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity, and to the honor of Blessed Mary ever Virgin, of our holy father St. Dominic, and of all the Dominican Saints and Blesseds. May Christ the King reign over the cyberspace!
